Welcome to my Website!

This site is all about the Warkentien family that came to America from Mecklenburg, Germany.  I have put together some family history, family trees and photos to share with people.  I hope this interests some people.  This has been a hobby of mine for years and will continue to be for many more years to come.

The Early Warkentien's.

The earliest Warkentien that I could find was Daniel Jochim Warckentin, born in 1743 in Ludershagen, Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany and died 7 Oct 1798 in Ludershagen, Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany.  He married Dorothea Elisabeth Baas.  She was born in 1752 in Ludershagen, Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany.  She died in 16 Oct 1798 in Ludershagen, Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany.

Their son Ernst Christian Joachim Warckentin was born about 1774 in Ludershagen, Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany.  He married Juliana Anna Dorothea Knus born 31 May 1779 in Hopperrade, Ludershagen, Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany.  The daughter of Hans Knus and Lucia Sophia Schroder.  Their son was Christian Wilhelm Johann Warkentien.

From Germany to America.

Christian Wilhelm Johann Warkentien was born 15 March 1812 in Ludershagen, Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany.  His wife Maria Carolina Lehmann was born 7 March 1814 in Hoppenrade, Ludershagen, Mecklenburg, Germany.  They left Mecklenburg, Germany in 1850 with their children.  They made the ocean voyage in a sailing vessel which took fourteen weeks to make the crossing, and came direct to Elmhurst, Illinois.  Christian bought an eighty-acre farm in York Township, which contained an old house, to which he made additions and erected other buildings.  He carried on farming until he retired on account of advanced years, then moved to Chicago, here his death occurred 30 Sept 1883, at the age of sixty-two years.  Maria died in 1858 in IL, USA.  They were the parents of 11 children.
